A note from our Superintendent, Steve Keller:

According to the legend of Groundhog Phil, spring is closer than we may think. Now that we are into February, we have seen some winter weather with around a dozen frost episodes, which has been pretty normal. The prediction of an early Spring is believable with the trending warmer weather we have seen over the past few winters, but Phil’s predictions are only about 39% accurate, so it’s possible we may see more winter over the next couple months. We have seen frost in early May several years ago but historically, we can count on only a couple more weeks of cold days left and the return of hotter weather consistently. Central Florida, especially our area, can stay a little cooler than the rest of the sunshine state. Spring will start soon and the days are getting longer. We are seeing some flowering plants blooming such as the camellias, azaleas and other plants blooming, which remind us winter may be coming to an end. The blooming seems to be a little early and before we get too excited, some more cold winter weather is yet to be seen. Each year, we never know exactly what to expect with the weather and prepare the best we can for the worst. Getting through January is usually the coldest and most stressful on the course and now that it has passed, we are pleased with the conditions of all the playing surfaces. We always have a few areas we are working on but, overall the greens are really in good shape, quite fast and rolling true. We appreciate all the support from the players helping us keep the course in great condition and it’s only going continue now to get even better!
